It's preview time!

Previews can be anything you want: quotes from a beta reader, a snippet of your story, movie-style trailers, book blurbs, fan mixes, art -- anything goes, as long as you follow the rules below.

* Story previews may be no longer than 750 words
* Art previews may be no larger than 400 X 400 px (you may post multiple images)
* All previews must be posted behind a cut
* All previews must be posted to the comm as a public entry (I will give posting access to people who need it.)

If you're an author or artist and you'd like to sign up for a preview date, please copy and paste the contents of the box below into a comment (along with your answers!):

Posting Dates )

(Please note -- previews are optional. If you don't want to post a preview, you don't have to!)
Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 09:48 pm
AUTHORS: Please comment here if you're still in need of a beta reader; at a minimum, you should give the pairing, genre, rating and length of your story, and tell potential beta readers what you're looking for.

BETA READERS: Please check back to see if anyone is in need of your assistance!

All stories have been sent out; please follow the request in the body of the email, and reply *to me only* so I know you've received your stories....

I've had a couple of questions regarding the timeline. I'd rather not alter it too much, but if a majority of the artists feel they need a few extra days, I'll consider extending the deadline for artists. Please comment to this post if you feel you need the extra time.

There are TWO stories that still need some love, so I'm allowing artists to claim more than one, if they like. Once those two stories are claimed, I will send stories out to artists, with cc's to the authors.

Art claims are open!

As today is August 13th, that means AUTHORS have two days to complete their rough drafts. If you've already finished, and want to submit early, please send your draft as an attachment, with the headers below the cut, to abb.mod@gmail.com.

Again, I say, today is August 13th, which means ARTISTS & MIXERS have two days to sign up! I've added everyone who has signed up so far to this post; if you signed up, but don't see your name, please sign up again HERE, and then friend and join the community.

For those who have asked, yes, I will post quick reminders to the Livejournal ABB account, but they will only be reminders; to see locked posts, you will need to be a member on DW, even if it is only with your OpenID account.

Can the following people please contact me, either by PM or a comment, and tell me why you've asked to join the comm? I can't match you up with either of my spreadsheets....

(I apologize from the bottom of my heart for the lateness of this post -- RL has taken me on a roller coaster this year, and I've not been able to devote the time needed to this year's Big Bang. My thanks to both Telesilla and Sharkie for doing the check-ins, and for gently poking me when I needed it.)

Without further ado, here's what you need to know if you're interested in making art or a fanmix for someone's [community profile] atlantisbigbang story:

All completed story drafts are due August 15th; on August 19th, I'll post a list of titles and summaries, along with pairings and/or warnings, in a locked post on [community profile] abb_mod (don't worry - I'll be friending all of the artists and mixers when the time comes, so you won't miss anything.) On August 20th, I'll open up comments on the post and allow artists to claim art.

Completed art will be due October 1st.

Claiming will be on a first come-first served basis, and since we have two tiers of stories this time around (stories that hit the 25,000 word mark will have one artist or mixer, while stories that reach the 40,000 word mark will have two artists or mixers), you won't know which author you'll be doing art for until after all prompts have an artist or mixer assigned accordingly.

Once the stories are all claimed, we'll send them out to the artists, and post a list to the comm.

As for what to make? Vids, manips, drawings, collages, digital paintings, movie-style posters, book covers, and of course, fanmixes with covers are all welcome and will be much appreciated.*

If you want to participate, click HERE and fill out the form. Once you've done that, join *and* friend [community profile] atlantisbigbang. This part is important, as reminders, announcements and check-ins will be locked to members of the comm.

*(Please note that simply sticking an image onto a colored background or running it through some filters and adding some text *does not count as art* - the authors worked hard to write their stories, and we think the artists should put in the same amount of effort into their work.)

Since I've been swamped at work, and come home only to fall down, I've not managed to close the author sign-ups.

This means if you missed the deadline, and wanted to play, you still have time to head over to the Author Sign-Ups!

For all you artists out there, we'll be opening sign-ups on 01 MAY....

Anyone may post prompts -- you do not have to be a writer, artist or mixer. Writers are not required to use these prompts; they're just here in case someone needs or wants some inspiration.

Please keep in mind that prompts may be used multiple times, and adapted to any pairing; there is no "claiming" per se, as part of the fun is to see the different ways that different authors will go from the same starting point.

Most important of all? Have fun! AND GIVE US YER BUNNIES!!!

As a reminder, this what is allowed and what is not allowed in stories written for [community profile] atlantisbigbang:

  • Anything set within SGA pre-canon, canon or post-canon is fair game.

  • Anything set within SG1 pre-canon, canon or post-canon is fair game, as long as the majority of the characters are SGA characters.

  • Anything set within SGU pre-canon, canon or post-canon is fair game, as long as the majority of the characters are SGA characters.

  • Fusions are allowed; crossovers are not, with the exception of crossovers with SG1 and/or SGU.

  • Alternate and mirror universes are allowed -- and encouraged!

And...some hints for leaving good prompts:

  • Try not to be too specific - the point is to give some inspiration, not plot the entire story.

  • Try to be as general as possible with characters -- you may love McShep or Sparky more than anything, but we're are a multi-pairing, multi-genre fest, and pairing specific prompts might put people off.

  • If your prompt is lifted from somewhere else, please give credit, so that authors can too.

Still stuck? Here are some examples:

  • How do you think things were different for the expedition in the Vegas!verse? How did they get there? What happened after they met John? What do you think the other universes were like?

  • Write something set post-season 5 - how does the team manage to get the city back to Pegasus? Are the Replicators really gone? What if the city stays on Earth?

  • Put the SGA team on the Destiny. Either have them be the original team, or have them somehow replace the normal SGU characters, or hey, even have them interacting with the team already there.

  • What if the SGA teams were all actually SG teams in the Milky Way? What if the SGA team was actually ship-based, on the Daedalus?

  • Write a Harlequin featuring your favorite SGA pairing. Or a mystery. Or a steampunk AU.

  • Chose a fork in the road -- maybe the Daedalus never comes to save the day during "The Siege" or the SGA team stays put when the Atlanteans come home in "The Return." What if Ford had come back to Atlantis with Sheppard, Teyla and Ronon in "The Lost Boys" or if Beckett had ascended in "Sunday"?

Almost everything goes in the [community profile] atlantisbigbang, and this challenge is open to any writer who wishes to participate, but you must read and agree to follow the guidelines listed below:

1) This year we will have two tiers of participation: if you complete a story of at least 25,000 words, you will have one artist/mixer. If you're feeling really ambitious and complete a story of 40,000 or more words, you will have two artists/mixers.

1a) You may write with a partner; this does not mean you have to double your word count (although that would be awesome).

2) Stories must be beta read by at least two people. (There will be a post for volunteer beta readers; check back for details.)

3) This challenge is for new stories -- if a story has appeared anywhere on the 'Net in its entirety, you may not use it for this challenge. If you already have a couple thousand of words of it up, that's fine, but you have to remove that part for the duration of the challenge.

3a) Having said that, if you have a story you've already started, it's fine to use that, as long as the bulk of the finished story is written and edited during the challenge.

3b) Sequels are allowed; just be sure to link to the original story in your notes, so people can find and read it.

3c) If you find you need some inspiration, check out the prompts post.

4) CROSSOVERS ARE NOT ALLOWED. The only exception to this rule is crossovers within the Stargate 'verse; as long the majority of the characters are Atlantis characters, you may use any other characters, plot set-ups, etc., from Stargate: SG-1 or Stargate: Universe. Fusions are allowed.

5) You may not post your story anywhere online except for the [community profile] atlantisbigbang collection at the Archive of Our Own for two weeks after the challenge goes live.

6) Story drafts (by which I mean a story with a beginning, middle and end, that meets one of the minimum word counts) are due August 15th; artists will chose stories from summaries starting August 17th. Completed stories and art are to be loaded into the AO3 collection by October 1st, with the challenge going live on October 6th or 7th.

If you agree to follow these guidelines, and plan to participate, click HERE, and fill out the form. Once you've done that, join *and* friend [community profile] atlantisbigbang. This part is important, as reminders, announcements and check-ins will be locked to members of the comm.

Please note: I will be adding a list of authors as they sign up. Once you've filled out the form linked above, please give the mods a day or so to add your name; if you've not been added after a couple of days, please PM one of the mods so they can check the status of your sign up.

Sign ups will be open from now until April 15th, but you may start writing as soon as you sign up.

ETA: Author List, as of 9:35pm EST, 24 APR 12 )
(A star next to your name on the author list means you still need to join the community; if you're an LJ user, and need help joining with your OpenID, or want a DW code, please let me know.)
